Roger Rooman Arioso in Alto (Sky Bridge) (1992) An epic quest with a big sweep of sound, progressing atonality within long-spun lines of diatonic melody and subtle arabesques |

Percy Grainger Three Gothic Pieces (1932) (Australian Premiere)
From the time when Grainger delved into medieval harmony with Dom Anselm Hughes.
Stuart Greenbaum Moments of Falling (1997)
Minimalist piece constructed around a cascading 16-note sequential motive
in the Aeolian mode.
Peter Tahourdin Partita for string orchestra (1962)
Partita in five movements. A tonal work in the traditional style.
Stravinsky Apollon Musagéte (1927-28)
Revised in 1947. Originally written in two scenes for Diaghilev’s Ballets
Russes in the neo-classic idiom.
CONCERT THREE—Transitions
THURSDAY 16 OCTOBER 8:00PM
Margaret Sutherland Concerto for string orchestra (1953)
In the neo-classic style. A bright, strong and cogent work happily merged
with a humane emotionalism.
Alexander Goehr Little Music for Strings (1963)
In two movements, the first a set of six Variations on a short recitative,
the second, Allegro Moderato, resulting in a new euphonious harmonisation
departing from the classical 12-tone chromaticism.
Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings (1880)
Based on short, repetitive folk-songs and using both principal and secondary
themes in the major key resulting in a joyous atmosphere.
